Answers Before You Even Ask

These are the questions we hear most often from families exploring Amores. Don't see yours? Just reach out.

As of February 2026, we have 3 spots in our Preschool room and 5 spots in our After-School Program. Our Infants and Toddlers program is currently waitlist-only. The infant/toddler waitlist average is 4–6 months, though this varies by your child's age and your target start date. The earlier you apply, the better — many families apply during pregnancy for infant spots.
Our ratios exceed California's requirements: 1:3 in the Infant Room (CA minimum: 1:4), 1:4 in the Toddler Room (CA minimum: 1:6), 1:9 in the Preschool Room (CA minimum: 1:12), and 1:10 in After-School Care. Lower ratios allow our educators to observe and guide each child individually rather than just managing a group.
Yes — we are a fully approved provider for San Francisco's Early Learning for All Scholarship, the Alternative Payment Program (APP), and CalWORKs child care. We also work with employer-sponsored childcare benefit programs from companies including Salesforce, Stripe, and Google. See our financial assistance page for full details.
In our classrooms, you won't see worksheets or whole-class instruction. Instead, you'll see children choosing their own activities, building with blocks, pouring and measuring, painting, reading picture books with a teacher, working on science projects, or creating together in dramatic play. Our educators observe each child closely and step in to extend learning when a child is ready — not on a fixed schedule. Play-based learning produces deeper understanding, stronger social skills, and a lifelong love of learning.
Absolutely — and most parents prefer it. Your first tour is adults-only so you can ask questions freely, observe the children working without your own child as a distraction, and get a genuine feel for the environment. If you decide Amores is a strong match, we then schedule a short "play visit" with your child before their official start date.
Our in-house chef prepares organic lunch and two snacks daily. Menus are posted in Brightwheel weekly. We are a nut-aware facility (peanut and tree nut free). Full allergy profiles are collected at enrollment, and EpiPens are stored on-site for children with anaphylactic reactions. All staff are trained in allergy response. Parents may bring outside food for medical dietary needs; please inform us at enrollment.
Our official closing time is 6:00 PM. A late pickup fee of $1/minute applies after 6:05 PM — this is both a staff courtesy fee and a firm policy so our teachers can leave on time for their own families. Occasional emergencies happen; please call us immediately if you're running behind so we can plan accordingly. Chronic late pickups (more than 3 times in a semester) may impact your enrollment status.
Yes — we validate parking at the 100 Montgomery Street garage for up to 30 minutes during drop-off and pickup. Many of our families commute via BART (Montgomery St. station is 2 blocks away), MUNI lines 2, 38, and 30, or by bike using the protected lanes on Market Street. We have a secure bike storage area in our building.
